In the field of Metallurgical Assistance Horst Wiesinger Consulting did a comprehensive Technical Audit of two Steel Plants. The aim of this audit was to survey the two Steel Plants with respect to the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) of the current plants. This audit started with a short assessment of the individual plants, the energy supply and the environmental situation. This audit evaluated the actual status of the plants based on the actual performance and with respect to the current product mix. The main considerations of this analyse were those 4 parameters/criteria that govern any evaluation of a plant namely Strengths of a plant This SWOT analyse was done for all those individual plants which mainly influence quality and efficiency. On the next page the SWOT analyse of the Hot Strip Mill is presented as an example. For one individual plant Horst Wiesinger Consulting did a Modernization study as well. This study presented all the modernization measures to overcome the equipment limitations to coil weight, availability and product quality of a Hot Strip Mill. The results of the study showed that by adding or replacing equipment the throughput of the mill can be increased by more than 30 %. In addition to the higher throughput the measures will have decisive positive effects on mill availability, product quality, yield and operating costs as well. |
